Comments and your voice

The comments do not sound like me, or claim things I would not say

Why a comment can sound off, and the five settings that fix it: examples, rules, bio, goal and ratings.

If a comment reads like a stranger wrote it, or says something with more confidence than you would, Allen is missing information about you. Here is where it comes from.

"It sounds like AI"

Add real example comments under Train Allen. Three to five of your own comments change the output more than anything else. Then add rules for the tells you notice: "never start with Great post", "no bullet points", "no emojis".

"It states facts or experience I don't have"

Allen draws on your bio, your website, and your examples. If your bio is thin, it fills gaps with general expertise, which can read as claiming things you have not done. Fix it two ways:

  • Write a fuller bio: what you do, who you serve, what you have and have not done.
  • Set the comment goal to "ask a question" or "support the author" rather than "show expertise". Questions never overclaim.

You can also add a rule like "never claim first-hand experience; speak as someone learning alongside the author".

"It's too long" or "too formal"

Set comment length under Style, and tick tags like short and punchy or conversational. Rules like "write like a text message to a colleague" work well.

"It agrees with everything"

Ask for respectful pushback in your rules, or use the Respectful pushback tone where it is available. Allen is deliberately careful here, so expect gentle disagreement, not a fight.

Rate as you go

Thumbs down on the ones that miss, thumbs up on the ones that land. After twenty or so ratings the difference is obvious.

Last resort

Rewrite from your notes. Type the one thing you want to say and Allen writes it in your voice. That comment is as much yours as anything you typed.
