Running a custom search from Today

How the search picker works: choose an audience, add or remove keywords, search the past week, or search without an audience filter.

1 min read

The Run button on Today opens a search picker that reads like a sentence: "Find [audience] talking about [keywords]".

Audience

Pick one of your saved audiences, or "Anyone" to search with no job-title filter. Allen looks for posts written by people with the job titles in that audience. If an audience has no job titles yet, it searches everyone and uses keywords only.

Keywords

Tick the saved keywords you want, untick the ones you do not, or type a new one and press Enter to use it for this search only. To change your saved keywords for good, edit them under Prospects.

You can also search an audience talking about anything. That finds the freshest posts from your buyers whatever the topic, which is often the best way to get into conversations with specific people.

When a search comes back empty

Allen offers two one-click fixes under the empty result:

  • Search the past week instead of just today.
  • Search without the audience filter, so keywords alone decide.

Every search uses credits from your monthly pool, the same as an Autopilot run. There is also a sensible daily cap on how many searches you can run so a slip of the mouse cannot burn a month of credits in an afternoon.
