Setting up your audience (and running more than one)
How to describe your customers so Allen finds them, how to let Allen suggest an audience, and when to split into several audiences.
1 min read
Your audience is the list of people whose posts Allen looks for. You set it up under Prospects.
Let Allen draft it
At the top of Prospects there is a box that asks who you want to reach. Describe them in a sentence, like "owners of independent dental practices in Texas who are frustrated with insurance" and press Generate. Allen suggests job titles, keywords, industries and people to skip as chips you can edit or delete. Nothing is saved until you press Save and use this.
Or build it by hand
Give the audience a name, then type each job title and press Enter. Add the industries they work in and any titles to skip. Changes save automatically.
Tips that make a difference
- Use the words people actually put on LinkedIn. "Owner" and "Founder" find more small-business buyers than "Entrepreneur".
- Add senior and junior versions: "VP Sales", "Head of Sales", "Director of Sales".
- Skip your competitors by title. If you sell bookkeeping to dentists, add "Bookkeeper" to People to Skip or you will be commenting on other bookkeepers.
- Remove your own job title. Allen already strips obvious self-references, but if your buyers and your peers share a title, be deliberate.
More than one audience
Many people sell to two or three kinds of buyer, or to buyers and referral partners. Create a separate audience for each one. The tabs at the top of Prospects switch between them, and the New button starts a fresh one with empty fields. Each search on Today lets you pick which audience to use, and Autopilot can comment on any audience you tick.
Deleting an audience
Deleting is permanent. If you only want to stop using one for a while, untick it in Autopilot instead.
